Report on recent outing to Hatfield House in Hertfordshire for their "Rose Weekend".On Saturday 21 June, members of Earlsdon Flower Club and guests had an enjoyable coach trip to Hatfield House in Hertfordshire for their "Rose Weekend". First stop was the main House which had been decorated with arrangements of summer flowers, in particular gorgeous roses. Then we wandered through the fantastic gardens all very neat and inspiring. There is an Oak tree in the garden where Princess Elizabeth was told of her sister's death and she became Queen Elizabeth I. There is still part of the house where she grew up and was put under guard by her sister. The excellent restaurant and gift shop held our attention for some time over lunch before we decended on the marquees set up on the lawn. The Tastes of Summer marque held opportunities to try food and drink before buying and Waitrose was handing out reusable bags to put purchases into. Very environmentally friendly!! The Summer Style marquee housed stalls displaying gifts and crafts, while the biggest pull for the group were the plant and garden accessory stalls. Just outside the grounds is St Etheldreda's Church. This had been decorated with flower arrangements for the weekend and was beautiful in sight and smell! They also provided the best cup of tea and homemade cake of the day. Nearly everyone on the coach had purchased the fabulous rose plants and the spare seats were soon commandeered for these purchases, while the driver was urged to drive slowly around corners to avoid breakage's. A fantastic time was had by all,the day included a history lesson, 17th century house, wonderful gardens and a shopping experience. What could have been better! |
