A letter from the Area Chairman Barbara Collins

Dear Members,

The South Midlands Area, can look forward to an exciting programme of events to celebrate our 50 year Anniversary in 2012.

Friday March 23rd starts the year with a "Celebration Luncheon" at The Manor Hotel, Meriden, followed by a demonstration with National Demonstrator, Nick Grounds. This promises to be a day when members can perhaps reminisce about past events and celebrate the day together.

May 5th-8th "The Power and the Glory" Flower Festival staged at Coventry Cathedral, a joint event to celebrate the 50 year Anniversary of the Consecration of Coventry Cathedral, with over 50 designs all created by members of the South Midlands.

We are still busy fundraising so please support us with a "Strictly Good Night Out" event on Saturday 11th February at Lapworth Village Hall

Wafa Elimination Competition June 28th at Dunchurch Village Hall, with a touch of the Irish Blarney.

Southport - enjoy a few days at The National Competitions, July 12th -14th

The Gala Demonstration with National Demonstrator Barry Grey on Thursday 25th October, Sutton Coldfield Town Hall.

Area Demonstrator Training

Starts Thursday 31st May

Mock Test---Thurs 6th September

Area Test--- Thursday 27th September

Six days in total Cost £150

All days to be held at Dunchurch Village Hall, Rugby Road, Dunchurch nr Rugby, CV22 6PN

CHRISTMAS OPEN EVENINGS SOUTH MIDLANDS AREA

During November and early December, a number of the Flower Arranging Clubs in the South Midlands Area of Nafas hold Open Evenings with well known National Demonstrator entertaining audiences often made up of people attending a Flower Club Demonstration for the first time.

To promote and recognise the high standard of work, many Clubs have provided photographs from their Open Evenings and a collage of these can be found either on the respective Club's own page or by clicking here

At the recent South Midlands Area of Nafas AGM, Barbara Collins became the new Area Chairman taking over from previous Chairman, Carolyn Rutland.

FLORAL ART

Congratulations to John Chennell on winning the Fresh Garden Plant Material Trophy in Class 4 OVERABUNDANCE for which he also received a Very Highly Commended

Simone Squire from Bugbrooke Club won a Commended in Class 2 EXPLORATION while the Centrix Clun won a Highly Commended in Group 7 NATIONAL HERITAGE

Lola Phillips from Henley in Arden won a Very Highly Commended in Class 13 BUCKLE UP

Well done to all of those receiving awards and to all those other competitors who helped make the Show such a success

Congratulations to Ellie Meaking from Henley in Arden on receiving First Prize in Class 2 THE REST AND QUIET - RENEWAL OF WINTER

Sandra Woods from Berkswell was awarded 2nd prize in Class 5 PASSION FOR DETAIL and 3rd prize in Class 4 THE MUSIC OF THE SEASON IN ALL ITS PERFECTION

POWER AND GLORY 2012

The celebration of 50 years of the South Midlands Area of Nafas and of the new Coventry Cathedral correlates in 2012.

To mark this dual celebration a Festival of Flowers "Power and Glory" will be held in the Cathedral between May 5-8th 2012 with arrangers from around the South Midlands Area taking part
