Rugby Floral SocietyRugby Floral Club is a happy active afternoon club which meets on the third Thursday of the month at the United Reform Church Hall on Hillmorton Road, Rugby. We have 11 meetings a year missing out the one month that everyone is either too hot or on holiday! You have guest it August. We have our AGM in January and competition in March and December. The March competition is run according to NAFAS Rules and we publish the schedule about 6 weeks in advance.
Report on June MeetingAs our meeting fell on Thursday, 17th June which was also Ladies Day at Ascot, many of the ladies attending the demonstration arrived attired in exquisite hats, many made by the members themselves and ranging from hats made exclusively of foliage to big picture hats adhorned with natural flowers to small fascinators created from artificial flowers and foliage. Prior to the demonstration the ladies paraded their creations and Mrs Gill Shanks, our demonstrator for the afternoon from Peterborough, judged the two classes and awarded Mrs Kay Wagg the prize for best natural material and Mrs Sheila Chard the prize for best artifical material hat. After the competition the ladies settled down to enjoy a glass of Buzz Fizz and cream scones whilst being entered by Gill who created six flower arrangements which included both traditional and contemporary styles. She had entitled her demonstration 'Tarry awhile with me' and that we were all pleased to do as she entertained us with her lively chatter and beautiful flowers.
Report on April 2010 MeetingThursday 15th April 2010 saw Jane Fox who is a member of the Rugby Floral Society and a pre-national demonstrator enthralling her audience at The United Reformed Church with her demonstration entitled ‘Bring Me Sunshine’. Through her six beautiful arrangements she took us from the countryside and its ploughed fields, to her dream garden, then onto an airplane to exotic places, before returning us to England and Morecambe where she recalled many fond memories for her audience of those dearly loved comedians Morecombe and Wise who had inspired the demonstration. Her arrangements were alive and vivacious with lovely orchids, lilies, roses, carnations and other flowers in vivid colours and hues. Everyone agreed it had been a delightful afternoon with laughter and nostalgia.
