January 2012 Katherine Kear - Demonstrator's Dilemma

Our first meeting for 2012 was a great success.

We had a superb afternoon watching National Demonstrator, Speaker and Teacher Katherine Kear solving her "Demonstrator's Dilemma" All she brought with her was her tool box.

Six members had each prepared a container plus a box of flowers and foliage for Katherine to arrange. Our programme secretary made sure each container was different and we tried to ensure we had a variety of colour schemes too. Katherine had no idea, until she took the covers off, just what she would have at her disposal.

Everyone was very impressed with Katherines' ingenuity and she produced six very different designs. Many vastly different to what we had expected when we packed the boxes.

Katherine shared with us her vast amount of expertise as a teacher, speaker and demonstrator, we came away with lots of interesting ideas and information for future use. A masterclass in flower arranging which everyone found very enjoyable and one we hope to repeat again in a couple of years.

It was a useful exercise for the members chosen to provide the flowers etc too, not an easy task to find the right flowers in the right colour at the right price. We understand how difficult it must be for demonstrators to work within their flower allowance.

December 2011 Nick Grounds - Christmas Carols

Our final meeting for the year was a great success. Not only did we have our largest audience for a long time but we were entertained admirably by Nick Grounds with his delightful demonstration "Christmas Carols". Nick managed to convey the real meaning of Christmas to us but also included many of his humourous tales as well, an excellent end to the year. His flowers were beautiful and he gave us some good ideas to use in our own arrangements. Everyone was full of praise for him at the end and all eager to win one of his lovely designs. We are now looking forward to the interesting programme planned for 2012.

October 2011 - An update from the Club Chairman

We have had a very good summer, several excellent demonstrations and an outing to Burrows Gardens near Ashbourne which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

As well as the demonstrations mentioned below we also had a superb afternoon in September when Wendy Davis, our next National Chairman, gave a presentation "A Thing of Beauty is a Joy Forever."

The whole audience was entranced by the wonderful things Wendy showed us and talked about. We plan to invite her back to give another talk from her repertoire when she has finished her term of office.

Our next meeting is Christmas Tea when as well as Ken Gilks entertaining us Claire & Michelle are setting up their Jewellery Stall for us to do a little retail therapy before Christmas.

We are looking forward to welcoming Nick Grounds back again in December with "Christmas Carols". I am sure he will get us all in the mood for the forthcoming festivities with his humerous anecdotes.

Visitors are most welcome to come along to any of our meetings.
