Woolscott Flower ClubMembers meet on the first Wednesday of the month (January, July and August excluded)We meet in Willoughby Village Hall at 7.30 pm amidst a friendly and cosy atmosphere. Willoughby village is situated about 3 miles south of Dunchurch and 6 miles from Rugby. Our meetings usually consist of a demonstration, followed by an opportunity to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, have a chat with friends and take a closer look at the arrangements which are raffled after the demonstration. Visitors are very welcome at a cost of £5.00 per visit We are a very lively club and hold our own club competitions 4 times each year when members compete for several Club Trophies. Some of our members won prizes at this year's Area Competitions which were held quite close to us at Gaydon National Motor Museum. We enjoy outings and usually organise two each year. Last year we visited Chatsworth at Christmas and have also visited Highgrove, Wisley, Kew, Sudely Castle, Blenheim Palace and George Smith's garden just to name a few. We are proud of our well stocked sales table which is always filled with the latest merchandise.
Silver Threads with Derek ArmstrongIn June 2007 we celebrated our 35th Anniversary Open with a demonstration by Derek Armstrong entitled 'Silver Threads' at the Benn Hall Rugby. We were honoured to have as our guests for the evening the Mayor of Rugby, the President and Chairman of the Area as well as members and officers from local flower clubs. After the demonstration, the Mayor, on behalf of the Macmillan Fund, accepted from our President, a cheque for £500. Our second event was held on July 11th when the Club visited the garden of our President Carolynn and her husband David at Woolscott Manor. Here we enjoyed canapes and sparkling wine as we wandered around the beautiful grounds in the evening sunshine. This was followed by our buffet supper and the cutting of the celebration cake at Willoughby Village Hall. In November we welcomed our guest speaker, TV celebrity Christine Walkden who gave us a talk with slides on 'Plants for the Flower Arranger'. Christine is a freelance horticulturalist, lecturing nationally and internationally, leading field trips throughout the world and we felt very privileged to have her. She was so full of enthusiasm, has a great passion for plants and entertained us with her 'down to earth' approach.
